Ways to Give

Current Gifts

In most cases, current gifts are those provided by donors to help meet the immediate needs of Canterbury’s residents.

Planned Gifts

Planned (or deferred) gifts are most often larger in size than outright gifts, are often made from the donors assets; they usually require some planning by the donor and his/her financial or legal advisors.

Canterbury Foundation accepts charitable gifts from the community in support of seniors’ housing and care. Should you wish to designate your gifts to a specific area we will honour those wishes to the best of our ability. Undesignated gifts will provide those enhancements or services that the Board feels are most important for continued quality of care. Endowed gifts will be invested through the Canterbury Foundation

Gifts to Canterbury Foundation may take many forms and may include both outright (or current) and planned (or deferred/future) gifts. Outright gifts are generally available immediately for use by the Canterbury Foundation to fulfil the current needs of its residents.  Planned gifts are often larger in nature, planned in consultation with the donor’s professional advisors and provide for the long-term stability of the Foundation.

Charitable tax receipts are issued for gift over $20 and in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency regulations. This allows donors to claim a charitable tax credit on their annual tax return.  In Alberta, gifts to charities totalling over $250 in any given year can result in tax credits of 50% of the value of the gift.

“I think it starts from the leadership and filters down to all the staff. The focus is on the residents, always asking ‘What can we do for them?’

Roger Thomson, former Board president
